The rhymes are printed with your child's name set into them, which changes the experience for the reader more than for the listener. They are short — short enough for the last twenty minutes of the day, when nobody has the stamina for a plot — and familiar enough that grandparents can recite along without needing to see the page. That last quality is the underrated one. A book a visiting grandparent can join in with turns the reading into something shared rather than performed. It doubles as a keepsake, but the keepsake part is a by-product; the daily use is the reason to buy it.
