The retelling gives the classic a job to do: your child joins Alice on a quest to find a missing bunny called Benny, and is named on every page of the search. Adding a search to a story children already half-know is what stops the retelling from being merely decorative. Softcover.
Half-knowing it is the advantage here. A child who recognises the shape of the story has attention left over for the parts that have changed, and the part that has changed is that they are in it. Read it after they have met Alice somewhere else, not before.
