Grandma's house at Christmas is its own country, with its own cookies, its own bedtime and its own rules.
The book follows a child's first visit there in December, which makes it a first-contact story more than a Christmas one. The child's name and Grandma's name are written through the pages, so the country in question is a specific house rather than a general idea of one. Nothing about the visit is dramatised; the book takes the position that a change of house is a big enough event on its own. Hardcover.
The different rules are the part children remember and the part parents pretend not to notice. Writing them down makes the arrangement official, which is funnier than it sounds and rather generous to Grandma. Read it on the drive over, or on the first night in the spare room.
